Whoop.
Since my recent escapade (as I call it) with Artemis Fowl is over, I've decided on a new series to plunder. It's my personal favorite Manga of all time, Trigun, written and drawn by Yasuhiro Nightow. I frickin' love this Manga. The Anime...not so much. The Manga is just so much deeper, richer, with more characters, and the story is longer. Plus it has Livio. You can't beat that.
Trigun is a series that takes place on a barren desert planet, where the people inhabiting the world live in a wild-west setting. The gun-wielding varmits run amok causing mischief while the Sheriffs of this rough-and-tumble world try their best to keep the peace for the common folk, but none of these hoodlums compare to the $60,000,000,000 Double Dollar man, the Humanoid Typhoon, Vash the Stampede.
But Vash isn't evil. Not even close. Heck, he's a downright nice guy. But that doesn't stop every man and woman around him from trying to defeat him and win sixty billion bucks. This just makes things harder for Vash, as he lives by one rule: to never kill, no matter the reason. What's a pacifist to do when surrounded by loaded firearms?
Trigun is a series that raises the question: Is it right to kill, even in self defense? As the series progresses, it becomes harder and harder for Vash to keep to his beliefs and values, as more and more enemies arrive to challenge him, including his own twin brother, Knives, and his league of professional assassins, the Gung-ho Guns. Vash makes many allies along the way, including a chain-smoking priest with a gun, two cute Insurance girls, and a little black cat called Kuroneko-Sama, to name a few.
Vash must fight to protect the ones he loves. He fights to protect people he doesn't even know. But faced with assassins and betrayals, how can he go on? How will he possibly survive? Will his beliefs of nonviolence make him stronger, or get him killed in the end?
Trigun is a wonderful Manga filled with quirky characters, humorous moments, and serious issues. It raises questions and makes you think, which many Manga's fail at. The plot twists and turns like a roller-coaster, never disappointing, and I can say it's my absolute favorite Manga of all time, no exceptions. None of my other favorites even come close. The Manga series starts with two large books, simply labeled 'Trigun', then the story continues with smaller volumes named 'Trigun Maximum'. There are fourteen of the small books in all.
I don't plan on drawing every single character from the Manga series. Only the main ones, and I also don't plan on coloring them all. I'll only be coloring my favorite characters, and leave the others be. If you've never heard of the Trigun series, I greatly encourage you to go read the Manga, or watch the Anime. But preferably read the Manga.
...It has Livio.
